A Workplace Cycle Challenge is a behaviour change programme that gets more people cycling, more often.

We work with local partners around the world to get more people cycling for recreation and for transport purposes.

More information can be found at www.getmorepeoplecycling.com, or check out some of our recent Challenge websites:

We'd love to hear from anyone who'd like to see more people on bikes in their area. Please contact:

  • What's more, when they do show large numbers cycling those shots were filmed in the Netherlands, not the UK. The road signs give it away (especially the large yellow cyclist redirection signs, which are present because the film crew stood next to road works to make their film).

People cycle in these large numbers in the Netherlands because conditions there are pleasant for cycling. The streets of the UK are not the same.

  • Hi David, yes, some of the shots in the video are filmed in the Netherlands & others in the UK. Our vision is to get more people cycling for the joy of it, for health & as a great way to get from A to B. We included shots of the cycling culture in the Netherlands to show what this vision can look like when it's fulfilled. The UK faces different challenges but given time, determination and resources we can create and fulfill our own vision for everyday cycling in the UK.

  • There is really no need to create your own vision. The research has been done. Endless "demonstration town" type projects back in the 1970s and 1980s. The successful way of increasing cycling is there to see in any Dutch town. It's a little disingenuous to show Dutch cyclists as being in any way representative of what Britain could be like (especially without noting that this is what is being shown), without also committing to building the infrastructure which made it possible.

  • I think we're all talking about the same thing in this case David. We all want to get more people cycling. The Netherlands is clearly ahead of the UK as they've been investing in cycling for the last 30+ years. The UK also needs to invest. There are shots of Netherlands in the video to show people the vision for the future of cycling in the UK - what is possible when we too invest in infrastructure and behaviour change programmes which will help us to develop a strong cycling culture.

  • The video is inspiring just like the Workplace Cycle Challenge I got involved with in Colchester, Essex.

Hopefully, a future clip in the not too distant future will show the same shots of large numbers enjoying cycling as in the Netherlands.

The comments by normal people are the true test of the efficacy of the programme.

Over and over people returning to cycling say how good it makes them feel and how much fun it is.

Keep up the good work Thomas.
