Most Yemenis See al-Qaeda Presence as 'Myth'
History of Fake Attacks Cement Belief Saleh Govt Using AQAP as Excuse
by Jason Ditz, November 03, 2010
"The truth is there is no al-Qaeda." Such a comment rarely finds currency in a nation's popular consciousness but in Yemen, home to what the CIA calls the most dangerous of al-Qaeda's many affiliates (al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP), it is all too common.
For some AQAP is just a cynical excuse for the Saleh government to get increased foreign military aid from the US and others. Other Yemenis, particularly in the south, see it as an excuse to attack separatist groups that have nothing to do with international terrorism.
It isn't naivete on the part of Yemenis, however, but a natural function of the Yemeni government's constant use of "al-Qaeda" as a justification for attacks on separatist-linked civilians, and as a catch-all for the many different groups that have bones to pick with the Saleh regime.
Indeed AQAP appears responsible for precious little of the internal violence in Yemen, and the group's focus on overseas targets makes it difficult to sell the idea of them being something for the Yemeni military to focus on. What few attacks they have claimed were usually clear retaliation for the government offensive, raising the inevitable question of whether the Saleh regime is simply hitting a hornet's nest over and over and claiming a "threat" when it gets stung.

Yemen Deputy PM: Media 'Exaggerating' al-Qaeda
Western Media Too Interested in al-Qaeda, Not Interested Enough in Coffee
by Jason Ditz, December 27, 2010
Speaking today in an interview with The Media Line, Yemen's Deputy Prime Minister Adb-a-Karim al-Arhabi slammed Western media outlets, claiming they were 'exaggerating" the threat posed by al-Qaeda and not focusing on other interesting things going on in Yemen, like the growing of fine coffee beans.
"Whatever relates to al-Qaeda is being very much exaggerated and it overshadows the image of Yemen, which is most unfair," insisted Arhabi, who spend the bulk of the interview talking about the expansion of Yemen's coffee industry.
US officials have been making much of the grave threat posed by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), the al-Qaeda offshoot based in Yemen, and committing growing military resources and aid to the country.
Indeed, while Arhabi seems keen to talk about the nation's coffee exports, it seems likely that the US pours more money into its military role in Yemen than comes out of the country in coffee in a given year.

What do you mean Al-Qaeda is not the primary threat? The corporate-government media says that the goal of "Al-Qaeda" in the Arabian peninsula is to overthrow the governments of Yemen & Saudi Arabia. lol
How will the fictional group of "Al-Qaeda" do their goal of overthrowing these governments when their false flag attacks (underwear bomber, package bomb) will justify US presence in Yemen?
The corporate-government media spreads lies.
