"The State We're In" was originally written by The Chemical Brothers (Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons) and performed by The Chemical Brothers and Beth Orton.

The original song has two sections, one switching between E and A and the other in Em (C | D | Em). I liked the feel of moving between the E and Em - it actually comes out more like E and G.

The reharmonization in the solo section here is kind of like this:
G#m7 | F#m7 | B7 | Gmaj7(b9) |
C#m (sometimes E6) | Dmaj7 | E | F#m7 |

This is probably not what I'm doing all the time but I started out thinking this way.
