http://www.euronews.com/ Protests in India against the horrific gang rape of a young student are intensifying following the arrest of five suspects.
The 23 year-old victim is fighting for her life in hospital in New Delhi after being gang-raped on a busy bus for nearly an hour before being thrown from the moving vehicle.
The rape was filmed on phones by passengers and quickly went viral around the world, shaming police into action to pursue a crime which, it is estimated, happens once every 18 hours in the capital, India's sex crime centre, but is rarely prosecuted.
Women's groups are trying to turn it into a pivotal moment to improve their rights, and there have been calls for the five to receive the death penalty if found guilty. The normal rape penalty is 10 years.
It has been noted that many of the protesters are college students, and that the speed with which protests have spread nationwide may mean the world's largest democracy is about to face the glaring sexual inequalities running through society.
National crime statistics suggest nearly 90% of violent crime in India is against women.

If it was because of Hindi films then they would have been doing a Bollywood dance on the bus, not a rape.

It also means submission. It means our way or the highway -- something that is not always condusive to peace.

I feel we have gotten off topic but...
Most Muslims are vehemently opposed to idol worship, and many feel obligated to take them away from others.
Buaditta Mal, who had come from Sialkot Pakistan, said "They throw away our figures of gods and goddesses. If we protest, they beat us up.”
Ironically, most people are not worshipping these figurines, they are merely assessories to praying; I find this very hypocritcal of Muslims regarding the kabaa.

Excuse me no Muslim believe that they should break into your house and take away ur gods.In islam every muslim must respect other religions and that islam doesnt gives right to muslims to break into someones house and take their gods. Its true that Media made muslims look bad otherwise islam is all about peace even the defintion of ISLAM means PEACE.But if some muslims have told that they believe that they should break into ur house and take away your gods then muslim himself is on the wrong path

Why should I be sensitive to religions that are insensitive to others' religions?
And the only reason that I made these comments is because someone said that if these guys were muslim then they never would have done this. Statistics indicate that is not necessarily a true statement.

I get the feeling that some of the protesters now do not give a rats about the woman that was attacked.
They just want the opportunity to bust things up.

Human sexuality is a reality; we should as a society have healthy attitudes towards it.
Though I doubt there has ever been a utopia anywhere; I am pleased to see India as of late making great strides towards human rights and fairness.
