"Africa is a continent of mass transformation and hope as opposed to despair," argues Prendergast. The Darfur crisis can be resolved through what Prendergast calls "the 3 P's." Peacemaking: a comprehensive peace deal the addresses root causes of the conflict. Protection: the deployment of a hybrid UN/AU force. And punishment: accountability mechanisms that create a cost for perpetrators and give leverage to those seeking peace. If we make enough noise, insists Prendergast, the US will lead in implementing this agenda.
