Part of that cost is shipping that is included in the price. ($75-$100 Shipping) We can assemble it for no extra cost other than the additional shipping that runs an extra $175 for assembled shipping. If you are in the Atlanta area we can sell this fully assembled for $299 if you pick up. We try to give good value for what you get. But we make these with furniture grade Birch, and Oak. Those sheets cost 2-3 times that of MDF or particle board like most manufactures out there, and last 5X longer
