Please interpret the following verses for me:

John 6:28-29 28 Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" 29Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the One he has sent."

Romans 3:21-26 21 But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.

Ephesians 2:8,9 8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—9not by works, so that no one can boast.

Titus 3:5 He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

2Timothy 1:9 who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace.

Romans 4:4-5 4 Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. 5However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

Galatians 2:16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

Galatians 2:21 "I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."

Galatians 5:4 You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

Galatians 3:22 But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.

Romans 5:1-2 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.

  • Or perhaps Jesus was talking to only to those in the tribulation, at the time of His Second Coming, not the church.

  • @Duck4212 If we look at the context and begin at verse 36 then we know that it is referring to "men that wait for their Lord, when he will return from the wedding". (I hold to the pre trib rapture and the pre millenial return of Jesus which follows the 7 year tribulation). So, "the wedding" refers to the wedding of Christ and his Church which has already been raptured. Therefore, what is described next refers to the tribulation period.

  • Mat 7:21-23 " Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not PROPHESIED in thy name? and in thy name have CAST OUT DEVILS ? and in thy name DONE MANY WONDERFUL WORKS? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

These verses PROVE that DOING the WILL OF THE FATHER is NOT that of DOING WORKS.

  • @Duck4212 Amen...the will of the Father is to believe on the Son.

  • @sincitypreacher Absolutely. I just commented because I find it just amazing that some try to justify works salvation or lordship salvation by pointing to Matthew 7:21. (specifically ...."doeth the will of my father")

  • @Duck4212 Yes, the answer to Matt. 7:21 is John 6:38-40: 38For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

  • I would appreciate your take on Luke 12:42-48. I see the servant as being a believer but rather unfaithful. I see the term "his portion with the unbelievers" as meaning his punishment which is not loss of salvation but simply a punishment.

  • @sincitypreacher HAPPY NEW YEAR
