Does Rosetta Stone Work?

It only works if you use it? No shit, Sherlock! Did you think that just buying the program and installing it would make you fluent in German? :P
-
Well of course you have to use it for it to work. That's like saying "I bought a hamburger, but I'm still hungry, because I have not eaten it."

Soooo did it end up working?

@ORAKAR 76% quit before the 2nd milestone

im getting the russian rosetta stone because i think itwould be a awesome language to learn then im thinking of learning either german or spanish

DO NOT TRY TO TRANSLATE TO YOUR PRIMARY LANGUAGE is a good advice. My Japanese teachers never use English in the class. They use pictures and objects instead.
They explain everything in Japanese.

I want to finish learning my second language (Mandarin Chinese) and I want to learn Russian, Arabic, Italian and Spanish, and maybe some more.

Warum luegst du, dass Rosetta Stone nuetzlich ist?? Doch! Es ist nicht nu Gegenteil! Es ist doch scheiss. Ich wuerde nicht deine Mama verkaufen fuer eine Kopie. Vielliecht habe ich einige Fehler gemacht, aber ich kann (nur in 6 oder 7 Monate) solch komplizierten Saetze schrieben... und das ist kein Dank an Rosetta Stone! Alles, Speichert ihr Geld! Sprachelernen ist nicht leicht!
Cant read? Basically dont waste your money on RS. A grammar book and Deutsche Welle is all you need.
Anyway many

Hm, have you finished Rosetta Stone and are you now fluent? I ask because the prevalent opinion is that Rosetta Stone sucks.

@Rikki0 Yeh that's good advise... that's exactly how baby's learn to speak a language because they have nothing to translate it to.

The real trick to learning with this program is DO NOT TRY TO TRANSLATE TO YOUR PRIMARY LANGUAGE. When you look at the images try to think in (in my case ) German. Don't think "Okay that is a picture of a plate and the German word is Teller. So Teller equals plate. Got it." That won't work. Just look at the picture and think "Teller". Eventually, when the picture comes up you will just think "Teller". "Plate" won't enter your mind.
It works to help you become familiar with words and what they mean. You will still need to study grammar separately. But it does help with understanding words as well as speaking and writing them. How sentences are constructed is something that you will have to study from another source.

@ areyoureadyforthis - "I am always learning German, it is quite difficult" Or "I am still learning German, it is quite difficult".
Yes it is difficult to learn a language that is not your native tongue.

@pinkflowerbaby56 I'm doing ok. I'm sticking with it. It is important to go all the way through Rosetta. I now suggest that you should get levels 1-5 and not just 1-3.

I've got the Korean version and have felt ripped off because of people giving it bad reviews. I'm so glad that your saying "it does work" and by you having a personal experience with it supports your view on the matter, so thanks.

@JordyBT You really have to use it to get the benefit. Do all the LEVELS that you have. That will take hours upon hours of time and THAT HAS TO BE helpful...
