Finally out of the cramped beyond belief 4x4 (thank you, God), it took minutes of stretching to get all the cricks out. Small but mighty Robin took Steve's backpack (poor Steve was in the throes of sciatica and the ride certainly didn't help) and we all began hiking down through a boulder field. Mount Pinatubo is part of a volcano chain that lies along the western edge of Luzon.
Across the strange formations, over streams and small rivers to a spot where a sign said, "Welcome to Mt. Pinatubo. Your trek begins here." Onwards and upwards to the intensely turquoise crater lake that has an area heated by thermal activity that can boil an egg! (Do I need to say no one goes there?)
