United Nations, New York, 15 June 2009 - Top international fashion model, Liya Kebede says the conditions millions of women in developing countries give birth in are inexcusable.
Speaking at the Secretary-General's Forum on Advancing Global Health in the Face of Crisis in New York, Ms Kebede highlighted the plight of women as young as 15 who struggle to find adequate healthcare services before, during and after child birth.
Ms Kebede says healthcare systems across the developing world need drastic re-development to ensure that fewer mothers and babies suffer during the process of child birth.
Ms Kebede, an internationally recognised fashion model, also said maternal health was the poorest performing Millenium Development Goal, and that it would not meet its target if current situations continue.
