From the A-side of the 1981 single, Streets Of London.

Originally by Ralph McTell.

LYRICS:

Well did you see the old man.
Outside the seamen's mission.
Memories are fighting with the medals that he wears.

And did you see the old man.
Outside the seamen's mission.
He's just another hero from a land that doesn't care.

So how can you tell me you're lonely.
And don't you say to me your sun don't shine.

And have you seen the old girl.
Who walks the streets of London.
She ain't got no money and she's all dressed in rags.

And have you seen the old girl.
Who walks the streets of London.
She carries her old knickers in two polythene bags.

So how can you tell me you're lonely.
And don't you say to me your sun don't shine.

Well let me take you by the hand.
And lead you through your streets of London.
I'll show you something you'll never understand.

Well let me take you by the hand.
And drag you through your streets of London.
I'll show you something that'll make you really sick.

Well let me take you by the hand.
And lead you through your streets of London.
I'll show you something we'll never understand.

Well let me take you by the hand.
And drag you through your streets of London.
I'll show you something that'll make you really sick.

  • why are you talking about green day on a anti nowhere league vid

  • Lets go back 20 years , a land that still had a voice , yet now , a land destroyed through forced acceptance, our leaders (all rich) Laugh at us to our faces. They care not for anything apart from there inner self greed, and the streets of London have vanished. Wrong time , wrong place , this land is dead. We were sold out and now we are paying for it. Millions dead in WW1 &2 , for what???? We let those who fought , Down !!!!

  • Anti Nowhere League weren't a punk band... Punks liked them.. coz they were good.. but so's yer mum and she isn't a punk band either.

  • YES.

    JUST YES.

  • @mixwell1983 nothing wrong with liking green day those boys are punk to their soul and when your'e punk inside then your'e part of one massive family[no codes,no nothing no problem.cheers m8.

  • Killing Joke were another great alternative band from the 1980s too. They weren't strictly punk but had a big punk following. Check out their song "eighties" on here it is a classic.

  • This song is absolutely fantastic. Never get sick of it. Remember seeing them in 1981/82. Was hopin to see them in Norwich 11th Nov but all tickets sold. Does anyone know if any are unwanted!!!!

  • lighten up people its only bloody music ,,,, ha !! an we dont care !!!!!!

  • @SquidLickShaun well said!! i was a teen in 76 / 77 when these bands hit the scene and it was fantastic..you gotta remember the music that was aired before was so bad and hardly any radio would play them also a lot of the public were so against it which made it more exciting..

  • WTF!!!!!!!!!! I love anti nowhere league, misfits, the exploidet!!!! but green day???? pfffffffffffffffffff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Darkangelrock92 - Sad thing is I doubt a lot of the (I feel old) newer punks think they're too cool for the likes of The Clash and the clash is fuckin bad ass but even myself I wanted to listen to the casualties type bands because they were more hardcore to me but luckily I got into the 77 style shit with bands like SLF, the vibrators, lurkers, johnny thunders, clash, (even the noobie punk band) sex pistols. 77 style is whas i still listen to even tho im into hip hop but i love 77 n 82 punk.

  • @chuckb11 -Thank you ! I don't know how old you are but I'm 28 and in the early to mid 90s Green Day was the shit and I still think their earlier music is good but their current stuff is pretty catchy. You can't blame it on the kiddies though because back when I was too punk for punk I would have never admitted that Green Day had some songs that were good. It went against the "punk code" LOL
