This is a video I made of my beagle puppy, Lucky. He died of distemper on 28 August 2008. The video was made 30 July 2008.
Lucky was born 24 April 2008..
He's such an adorable puppy, he was a fighter with the disease.. Me & mom were really sad when he finally gave up the fight..

  • hi! I have my 3 month old beagle now and was diagnosed with distmeper, he is not showing any signs and he's eating normally. Will he die as well? as i can see here your puppy is healthy and after a month he died? does he have distmeper in this video? we are just giving mmy puppy antibacterial meds

  • Hi ninhera07,

I had 3 puppies that time who got distemper, and one survived (which is the last one contracted).. there's 2 stages of distemper... 1st stage normally the puppy would appear normal, but signs included low blood cells count (check his body specially ears, tummy and face area, if there's red dots it could mean this), followed by pneumonia, runny nose, diarrhea, and fever.

  • 2nd stage which is the dangerous one, is the twitching/seizures, this means the virus has attacked the puppy's nervous systems. And also thickening of the paws and nose's skin (it appears dry and lots of skin layers coming off).. It was really hard to save the puppy at this stage, most cases the dog wouldn't survive when it has happened.. But my puppy that survived had the seizures but not as bad as Lucky and Eeyore (the other puppy that died).

  • It all depends on the dog's own immune system, as long as you can maintain that his immune system remains strong, it will fight the virus by itself. Make sure that the puppy eats regularly (every few hours) and rests a lot, and keep his temperature within normal range.. Give him antivirus tablets if there's any.. pills to increase immunity, vitamins.. I gave my puppies Science Diet A/D, eventhough the dog would loss his appetite, you have to make sure they eat and have their medicines on time.
