From the Movie Mc Cabe and Mrs Miller

SISTERS OF MERCY Lyrics

Oh the sisters of mercy, they are not departed or gone.
They were waiting for me when I thought that I just can't go on.
And they brought me their comfort and later they brought me their song.
Oh I hope you run into them, you who've been travelling so long.

Yes you who must leave everything that you cannot control.
It begins with your family, but soon it comes around to your soul.
Well I've been where you're hanging, I think I can see how you're pinned:
When you're not feeling holy, your loneliness says that you've sinned.

They lay down beside me, I made my confession to them.
They touched both my eyes and I touched the dew on their hem.
If your life is a leaf that the seasons tear off and condemn
they will bind you with love that is graceful and green as a stem.

When I left they were sleeping, I hope you run into them soon.
Don't turn on the lights, you can read their address by the moon.
And you won't make me jealous if I hear that they sweetened your night:
We weren't lovers like that and besides it would still be all right,
We weren't lovers like that and besides it would still be all right.

A long time ago,in a land faraway ,I was a boy who became a man.The love I had was for a girl ,who also became a woman .I wonder if she remembers me?This was one of her favorite songs,as well as Lola by the Kinks. The past becomes clearer. While the future grows dim.

    Because they say so:

"The Sisters of Mercy was formed in Leeds, England in 1979 by F-club regulars Gary Marx & Andrew Eldritch to satisfy their desire to hear themselves on the radio; during that time band t-shirts were made and a single, "Damage Done/Watch/Home of the Hit-men", was recorded and released. The name was influenced by Robert Altman's film McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971), which featured the Leonard Cohen song "Sisters of Mercy". "

And she feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way from China.

Met a girl at school last millennium. She wore shoes from China, and lived by the river. She said no to me, but yes to my best friend. So did the next one, and the next one. The stories of the streets are mine..

This sounds like his song "Suzanne." Same melodic guitar sound.
