To the tragic story of Vincent and Lucrecia's love.

"Why? I'm the one... who should apologize."
Vincent looks back to first meeting Lucrecia, regretting his failure to stop her from doing the mistake of giving birth to Sephiroth.
Lucrecia loves him, but pushes him away because of her involvement in his father's death. When she realizes it, it's too late. She's pregnant with Sephiroth and she finds Vincent dying at Hojo's feet. Hojo laughing maniacally with a gun in his hand.
Lucrecia does her best to keep him from dying, even going to the extent of fusing Vincent's decaying body with the Chaos gene. A gene that was not supposed to be awakened. The result:
"Stopping the imminent decay of tissue...
But instead...
Born was-
Chaos took him
Away from me."
Lucrecia, recognizing her failures, mistakes and having her son taken away from her, cannot physically or mentally take it anymore. She kills herself after leaving Vincent her data, her neural network, within a virtual reality.
Vincent awakens, confronted by the repercussions of his and Lucrecia's past actions...and sleeps in the basement of Shinra manor until Cloud and the others convince him to move on.
