Issued October 1971 in Canada on London 17410. Reissued 1977 on Axe 43.

This is the big record for the Kitchener, Ontario group that spawned Charity Brown. At the time of this recording, she was going under the name of Phyllis Brown.

Members of Rain were: Phyllis Brown, Charlie Hall, Chris Woroch, Ron Hiller, Bernie LaBarge, Bill McLaughlin and Brian LeBlanc.

This single was originally issued in mono on London. It is a Greg Hambleton production from before he had a label; however when Charity Brown became famous on A&M, Greg Hambleton reissued the record on his own Axe label in 1977, in stereo, amending the credit to read "Rain with Charity Brown."

The original issue entered the RPM 100 on October 30th 1971, reaching #32 on February 19th 1972.

It took me 37 years to find this record!

  • I'm very surprised of this "beat" for Rain while "Make Me" was an hard rock tune! This one seems to be DISCO!

  • Nah. Disco wasn't invented until three years after this record was made.

  • I've still got the original vinyl album - Phyllis looks absolutely angelic on the back cover. I was a huge fan of Kitchener bands - having seen most of them live at The Pavillion in Sauble Beach. Copperpenny were fantastic - I have a really rare 45 of them doing "Summertime" in the Billy Stewart style. I heard Rich Wamil was playing in a great group called "Gravity". I can be contacted via e-mail at northdan@bell.net

  • I started college around this time and on the daily drive to the university this song would pour out of my brother's 1962 Volkswagen 6 inch Dynamic speaker -- That speaker was phenomenal -- as was the music of this time [and this song] --Thanks for the video!! Terrific song!!!

  • It's been a long, long time. Thanx for this.

  • The record hit big on English Northern Soul Scene reaching anthem status at Wigan Casino Allnighters in the early 70's and still considered by many as a classic dancer of that era heavily played producing new dance styles and crazes.
