  • @viking1960 ..Early 1970's a SkunkWorks specialist read a translation of a Russian Aerodynamic Study from the AirForceForeignTech.Div titled a study on stelath technology by PyotrUpimtsev of Moscow Inst.o fEngineering named" Method of Edge Waves Theory of Diffraction"which lead to the HaveBlue=F-117,B-2 and the F-22... imo, a lot was taken by both sides...

  • @forcedcobra ...N.A.S.A. studies showed, for extd cruise@ Mach 3.50/FL1000/at a Gross Wt of 85,000lbs,req insulation of inlet hyd lines&actuators/ also a 15 percent increase in engine inlet capture area is required/ structural chances to larger outboard wing panels for increased wing surface area is also necessary, summation: over coming limitations for extd flight @ mACH3.50 ABOVE 85,000FASL is increased THRUST and LARGER WING LOADING AERAS no other structurial changes are necessary..

  • Top speed? Well,,,,the budget to build the SR-71 left america with jobs and social programs for AMERICANS.

That speed has been hugely superceded by the 5th generation which has bankrupted and disenfranchised the people it is meant to protect. Protect?

  • Rothschild has the coolest toys!

  • @86Timewarp Theme song for the Magnificent Seven movie. Written by Elmer Bernstein.

  • @Yallniggasbetrollin You never see what is the best of the best till it is about ready to be retired. Case in point...the F117 stealth fighter...not really a fighter but a bomber. Gone! No longer used.

The SR71 flew many years before anyone even saw one. Heck, the planning for the SR was started back in the 1940's!

Top speed is still classified due to the possible re-use of them if ever needed.

  • I actually had a chance to sit in the cockpit of an SR71 when I was in Nebraska at the SAC museum. This was before the museum building that is there today was built. The SR71 was sitting on the tarmac as it was de-commissioned and was getting ready to be re built for the museum. A friend of mine was one of the AP mechanics there and he asked if I wanted to sit in it. Well....yeah!

It was awesome. What an aircraft. Top speed still secret even today. They are holding them in mothball just in case

  • Fantastic, Thanks.

  • I think the unstarts were one of the more serious problems, I think...Thanks for your feed back. By the way I was in the hanger and the smiulator at dryden.

  • @rchrohan01 ..The SR-71B flew Mach 3.00, new Habus gained experience piloting this A/C at Mach 3.00 the B model wouldn't be much of a trainer, if new pilots couldn't experience dealing with problems that where encountered in high Mach number flights..IMHO the only A/C that could sustain SR-71A speed in level flight for 60+ minutes, was the A-12..the SR-71B was also used for helping many VIP's experience Mach 3.00 flights.however no enlisted airmen ever flew in the SR-71B...THX

  • they say the trainer was faster.
