This computer is only about 8 months old, has run fine but all of a sudden this god awful sound started happening. This drive is a Hitachi 5400rpm, not a Seagate, which surprised me because of all the complaints. This computer hardly ever travels and just sits on my desk.

  • that sucks.... what drive did u replace it with ? i would have popped a western digital in there. very reliable drives.

  • @c0rrupts3ct0r555 I was able to get it replaced under AppleCare. I personally would have put a WD Drive in there. WD makes really good hard drives.

  • how did you solve the problem?

    you recover your files?

    p.s.

It just hapened to me today :((((

  • I had to replace the drive. I wasn't able to get my files off however because the drive wouldn't spin up correctly. I was pretty aggravated about that. I luckily had my files backed up.

  • I am an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician and I replaced it myself. Apple was having an issue with this batch of HDDs. I haven't had an issue since I replaced it.

  • yuck. Hitrashi.

  • [URGENT] i have the same problem, do apple backup your files on the new hdd or do you have to do it you self? PLEASE RESPOND !

  • This exact thing has just happened to me, can anyone please tell me what to do?

I bought my macbook pro exactlly 2 weeks ago so i don't know what the fuck is going on.

  • The problem is that Apple is a very reliable machine and company and that contains internal parts like every other computer system. although they were not made by apple but partnership with apple to put in their Mac systems. I still have my macbook and i love it. The most reliable hard-drives out here is western digital cause i have a hard drive going 5 years strong!!!!!!!!

  • @bigphatjay Although i do agree that WD makes durable hard drives, but their noise level is a tad louder than other brands. I know because i just installed a new WD black scorpio HD last month =_=' Its pretty loud~
