You need to learn grammar especially for writing. They have grammar books such as "The Elements of Style" and "Rhetorical Questions" that teach not only American college students but also writers how to write correctly and effectively.

If one were to do a lot of reading in the style that one would like to write in, one would naturally get used to that style without making an effort to learn grammar.
