When I was younger like 6-8 instead of things like modern disney movies I grew up with Lord of the Rings. I think that helped my imagination more and made a lasting effect on me because I actually had to think.

Bridge to Terabithia was the best kid's movie that I've seen made in these "modern" times for kids. It was a lot like those old 90's kids movies with serious themes that kid's should witness because it's something that they may have to go through one day.

Children's movies now a days are all happy and funny but never have much substance. The older 90s kids movies that had darker and scarier scenes may have shocked the kids, but it made the happy ending that much more meaningful. Too many kids movies these days are too afraid to take risks or scare the kid. Where the wild things are is going to have 10 times the lasting effect on your kids than a movie like madagascar 3 ever will.
