Few Brandeis University alums have played as major a role in American journalism as Martin Peretz '59. The longtime editor-in-chief of The New Republic visited campus recently to offer insight to students who may be part of the next generation of journalists. Peretz's talk was sponsored by the university's Journalism Program.

  • While carrying on his decades-long career as a gay cruiser Peretz spent his (former) wife's millions disseminating his hateful ideas and building his reputation, such as it is, in journalism. PS It wouldn't take much for the readership of the New Republic's web site to exceed the number of readers of the magazine--which has declined by two-thirds in the past five years.

  • @whoo689 This asswipe should be fired. Get a REAL liberal or Democrat to run TNR. He is staining what should be a good liberal publication with his bullshit. I wonder, how many articles critical of Israel or that don't give unwavering praise to the Jewish State have been published under his leadership? I'd imagine it's a very small number.

  • @whoo689 This asswipe actually thought an Obama intel appointee "didn't deserve it" all because he criticized the Israeli lobby in the U.S. and wrote a book about it. WTF! So we just have to let Israel do whatever the fuck it thinks is necessary and NEVER question them? I'm sorry, but Israel or any other state does NOT get that privilege. We have a right to call any state out when it does the wrong thing.

  • @whoo689 I mean, come on! Israel is only the size of FUCKING NEW JERSEY with 6 million people. If Peretz WASN'T Jewish, would he STILL be as pro-Israel? I doubt it. It seems to me like he should be too liberal to be Zionist or extremely pro-Israel, but he lets his stupid religion get in the way. Israel is "our holy land." pfft! no such thing as fucking holy land! Land is land and nothing more. There's no land in the world with "special holy powers" to end aging and whatnot.

  • What an ass! He's bigoted against Muslims AND extremely Zionist. Of course, he IS Jewish, so why is that a surprise? As liberal as American Jews typically are in this country, the thing that unites Jews left and right is support for Israel. It's absurd, really. They give Israel a free pass ALWAYS! Look, I'm not anti-Israel, but I do at least admit that they HAVE made mistakes, and they're not perfect. And no, if Israel were to be wiped off the map, the world wouldn't go to hell.

  • Holy crap, talk about someone's character being written on his face
