  • ADF Faces (and JSF in general) absolutely breaks the way people are thinking about restful. A postback so that the URLs and the methods run don't match up is just pathetic. (maybe this has changed in the past 2 years?)

After working with JSF you'll figure out the components don't actually do what you want, not exactly. So you have to waste time hacking your javascript/java to work.

Go with something like YUI if you want easy frontend (I'm sure there's something better than YUI too).

  • @gevatron

I know it's hard to acknowledge the flaws in ADF when you work for Oracle, but blippy1 has more than a good point.

Bookmarks != REST. The 'rapid' development that ADF touts produces thoroughly non-REST apps. Bookmarking is achievable with some extra work, but not for large parts of ADF.

Oracle is selling a crock, mostly to 4GL developers emerging onto the web like moles into daylight. ADF, more than JSF, conflicts with what is now the majority opinion on how to program for the web.

  • Sorry, but despite there possibly being good advice in this video, I WILL NEVER DOWNLOAD ANOTHER "CODE NINJA".

"Hokey" is too kind a word for this... (I hesitate to use the word "production").

  • ADF Faces rocks!!

  • @blippy1

You might want to check out the ADF Controller - it let's you have bookmarkable URL's with parameters for JSF pages.

  • @kevinshlee

They have Chinese scrolls to disguise their true identity and origins - that's a well known Ninja tactic.

  • Where is a Ninja? What they wear and the scrolls on the wall are all Chinese ones yet Ninja is from Japan. If they can't even distinguish Japan from China, how can I believe what they say? By the way, do they just think putting 'Ninja' in the title and wearing any Asian clothes make them look cool? haha really??? :D LOL
