A request from someone commenting on my "Kong A-Z" tutorial, that person wanted to know how to sidechain compress the bassline with the Kick drum in the patch. Well, ok. Here's how you sidechain with Kong, and then I'll go on to doing it within my Kong patch. Hope this answers your question.

  • Excellent tutorial, very clear. Wish everyone could make something so clear but we dont all have these skills. Nice work bro tnx alot.

  • @Afewdollarsmore1 Well thanks for saying. I appreciate it. Taking a bit of a rest for a while, but I'll be back with more tutorials coming soon. Cheers!

  • this video really helped, had such a hard time getting a clear cut bass before! thnx a million!

  • @jtjwsnake No problem.

  • can one use sidechain compression with parallel compression and KONG?

  • @tintala sidechain and parallel compression are two different things. But the short answer is yes you can. sidechain means ducking one signal while the other one is playing. A typical sidechain is a bass ducking out when the kick drum is playing (since they both usually use the same frequency space). parallel processing means sending the same audio to two separate mixer channels (one is processed with FX or distortion or something and the other is a clean signal - then both are mixed together).

  • @Phisequence look forward to them

  • nice job with the video, very helpful, thank you.

  • Very Clear. Thanks so much for taking the time!!! I just upgraded to 5 and that's an important bit of knowledge. Thanks!

  • @dose25 No problem. I know switching DAWs is never easy. However, once you get used to Reason and the way it works, it's really a lot of fun. And the fact that the audio / CV cables mimic the real world will also help you understand how things are setup using hardware in the real world. Good luck and great to have you on board. ;-) Rob
