Recorded circa March 1930 in Grafton, Wisconsin. Don Kent has described "Last Kind Words" as "one of the most imaginatively constructed guitar arrangements of its era...."

<MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This song is so disturbingly brilliant.... i am a pretty decent guitarist and take it from me, the way this gal is strumming these weird notes & rhythms, all the while i believe she's singing and strumming at the same time.... believe me when i tell you, this is really hard to play and sing @ the same time... it's even hard to just play it, but to sing on top AMAZING!!!!!!!! Go Geeshie & thanks Robert Crumb for putting me on to her

Here's some consolation for you, calanero. According to John Jeremiah Sullivan (essay: "Unknown Bards", published in "Pulphead". Vintage, 2012), both Geeshie Wiley and Elvie Thomas play guitar on this. He guesses Elvie is playing slide, in counterpoint to Geeshie's strumming.

That's amazing, considering the recording was more than 10 years later. Thanks for the info., as I previously assumed the man she sings about was a sailor or something. A shame that she only recorded on a couple of sessions, considering the few songs she did record are such gems.
I read that they were with Charlie Patton at the studio.
