Yep but we call them detonators. And of course some numbskull who is opposed to KISS decided that they would be called Audible Track Warning Devices.....bureaucrats making themselves appear necessary.

@Rocketboy1950 called the "loading gauge". In the UK, the loading gauge is smaller than that in Australia or the US.

Are there multi-gauge lines in Oz ? How do trains move from state to state ?
soshmed1943 1 year ago
@soshmed1943 All of the interstate connections are standard. There is quite a bit of dual gauge in Victoria and Western Australia.

@Rocketboy1950 Thanks.
Are 5' 3" gauge cars even bigger and wider than standard gauge?
My great uncle was a steam locomotivengineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad.
He complained that his huge 4-8-4 locomotive was as big as it could get, restricted by the 4' 8-1/2 gauge.
He said it is too bad our gauge was not 6 or 7 feet.
Imagine how big everything could be. How spacious passengers cars could be.

@robertgift @robertgift No the size of the cars on any regular sized railroad are only restricted by things like bridges and cuttings. The gauge makes no difference.
