The Repository / Edd Prichard Neighbors stood quietly in a backyard watching as firefighters worked on a roof at 820 Fulton Rd. NW.
They waited for the inevitable.

The blanket wrapped the body of Azariah Adkins, 5, who died Monday in a fire that raged through his familys home. The boy was found lying in a second-floor hallway, outside his bedroom door, Division Chief John Whitlatch said. Witnesses said they saw the boy near a second-floor window after the fire started.
