The University of Michigan series "Out of the Blue: The Michigan Difference" presents an episode about the Wolvering Venture Fund at the Ross School of Business.

The video features interviews with Tom Kinnear, WVF fund manager, and Tom Porter, manager of the Frankel Commercialization Fund. Student fund advisory board members Michael Godwin, MBA '10, Jason Townsend, MBA '10, and Carrie Frost, MACC '10 also are profiled. They reflect on the WVF's recent success, including its record-setting $2 million return following the acquisition of portfolio company HandyLab.

In just over a decade, the WVF has invested in more than 18 companies across a wide range of innovative industries. ZLI oversees the fund, which teaches MBA students the intricacies of the venture capital business by allowing them to make actual investments in early-stage companies under faculty and adviser supervision. Emerging high-potential companies, such as HandyLab, receive investment dollars from the WVF at critical times during their seed and early-stage phases. In addition, Ross students provide input by developing and revising business plans, conducting market and product research, and writing case studies.
