My twin sister, Skylar, was telling me what I missed when I faked sick the day before. Apparently, when it rained, a dog ran through the hall with muddy feet and tackled the principal. We were in English class. We had both finished our assignments and were allowed to talk. I was laughing hard, and didn't think when I said a little too loud, "Damn! I wish I came yesterday!" "Electra Clark!" the worst voice said strictly, Mr. Hands. He hated me more than he should've. I started a rumor about him by saying, 'I wonder what Mr. HANDS does behind his desk when we watch a movie with the lights are off'. He found out I started it and gave me detention. Ugh. He tries to get me for every little bad word I say, even think. The school is very lenient with dress code, but oober strict with cussing. They don't like crap, damn, ass, fuck, or bitch. It's stupid, I mean they're just words. Would you rather me say, 'Darn you, you dang glitch'. I just switched some letters. I looked up nervously at Mr. Hands and he had come to hover over me. "This is your warning of the day. If I hear another cuss word today, you'll have detention after school for an hour." he glared. "Yes, sir." I sighed. He went back to sit down. Skylar rolled her eyes at me. She always gets irritated when I get in trouble. She's such a goody-goody. "Sorry," I groaned. We kept talking. When class ended, we went into the main hall. It rained again, then there was water all over the floors. Skylar and I walked down the hall, but I slipped on the water and my ass landed in a big puddle of water. "CRAP!!!" I shouted. "Electra!" the same shout sounded. I squeezed my eyes shut and threw my head back. "Why?" I thought. I opened my eyes again and Mr. Hands was writing my detention slip. Electra helped me up and I turned my body to see if it looked like I wet myself. Yup. Mr. Hands gave me the slip. "Skylar, tell your father when you get home that Electra won't be home until five. I want a parent/teacher conference tomorrow after school." he looked at Skylar with strict eyes. She nodded, and he walked off. "Come on," she sighed, "I'll get my pair of emergency jeans." I was shocked as we hurried to her locker. "You have emergency jeans?!" I shrieked. She gave me a nervous look. "Yeah. But I chose the jean shorts that I never wear. They're too short for me now, but I'd wear them if I had too, and I know you don't mind." I nodded. She opened her locker, then handed me the jeans. I rushed across the hallway and into the restroom. I went into a stall and took my wet jeans off. I put them in my bag and unfolded the jean shorts. They really were pretty short. I slid them on and buttoned and zipped them up. The bell rang. Dang. Another detention to look forward to. I was already late, so I took my time when I checked my hair and makeup. I left the bathroom and stepped into science. Ms. Kinnian sighed at me. "Half-hour after school." she didn't even half to look at me. "I already have an hour with Mr. Hands." I told her. "Fine, we'll wait until next time, then it'll be an hour detention with me." she compromised. I nodded and sat down. *** After school, I gave Skylar my bag to take home and the keys to the car. "I'll walk home. Tell Dad I'm sorry. You know, do the puppy-dog eyes." I grinned at Skylar. She rolled her eyes and went out into the parking lot. I went to Mr. Hands's class and sat down at my usual detention desk in the front. I was alone today, no other prisoners. I just got my homework out and did that while I let the time pass. *** When I got home, I put my bag by the front door and shouted, "I'm home!" Skylar ran up to me with an anxious look. "Dad is furious." she hissed. I went into the living room and Skylar and I sat on the couch. Dad stood in front of us. "I can't deal with this anymore." he said, looking at me. I sunk down in my seat and didn't answer. "Look," he continued, "I'm sending you to your Godmother's. I'm sick and tired of having Skylar come home to tell me that you're in detention! She has four boys who are great! Maybe she can straighten you out." Mine and Skylar's jaws dropped. "NO!" I shouted. Dad pursed his lips in fury. "Dad," Skylar cried, "Don't seperate us!" Even though Skylar and I weren't very much alike, anymore, we loved each other. She's my best friend. "Dad, I don't want to go. I don't wanna leave Skylar." I told him. He looked frustrated. "You're going, Skylar! I lost my job, and I can't make the rent supporting the three of us!" Mom had died about a year ago, when I turned bad. I started cussing, having attitude, everything Mom didn't want me to do. The only lines I haven't crossed yet are things to get arrested for, drugs/alchohol, and my virginity. "Dad, please!" I begged. He shook his head and looked at our pleading eyes. "I'll call Denise and ask if Skylar can join." he sighed in defeat. "Thanks! Where does she live? I don't know her." Skylar smiled. "Long Beach, California."
