It's early morning. In a quiet corner of the kitchen, an artist releases her imagination from a body that holds her physically captive. A sequence of computer beeps is her equivalent to the sound of a brush stroking canvas. Muscles above her eyes manipulate a mouse that carries vibrant visions from her mind to the screen... where she paints with pigment made of pixels. This is Erin Brady Worsham.

Worsham is an artist living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease). But this disabling illness doesn't stop Worsham from creating vibrant computer art . Her powerful images, and a synthesized computer voice, speak when she cannot.
I want people to know I am a thinking, feeling, human, being! I can deal with the disease. I just can't always deal with the people! -- Erin Brady Worsham, artist
Worsham's inspiring story provides testimony to the ability of art -- guided by a determined spirit- to overcome obstacles. For more information on ALS, please visit the website of the ALS Association at www.alsa.org.

  • Hello Erin. Thank you for sharing your story. I want you to know that you are an amazing person. You are an inspiration to me. I am a nurse who cares for Ventilator dependent patients in an ICU setting. I also own a home care that provides vent care in a residential care home. One of my goal is to always use clients name when talking to or providing cares to them. Thanks again for sharing your story. I hope to be a better nurse to all patients. Stay strong. Grate paintings. Have a blessed week.
