ASH (Action on Smoking and Health) staged a two part protest outside the HQ of BAT and at their AGM on 30th April 2008. First, they laid 1000 to signify the 100,000 deaths each year due to BAT cigarettes in Africa, then they targeted delegates entering the AGM. Youth groups from Salford and South Wales were involved in the protest, which was also covered by a BBC team with entrepeneur Duncan Bannatyne who is presenting an exposé of tobacco marketing in Africa for braodcast in July

  • Smoking is only the number 1 health concern for those that set to profit. Smoking costs the NHS nothing, its far offset by the amount of tax we pay on tobacco.

Read "Joe Jackson Smoke Lies". You can download it as a PDF file.

You campaign against alcohol as well? What has it got to do with you? People need to learn to be responsible for themselves. I they drink too much it will effect them, (same for tobacco? NO),they only have themselves to blame.

You are exactly what is wrong in the uk.

  • @thedannyclayton

Tobacco deaths are all "interpretable". I have an 87 year old aunt with Emphysema. She hasn't smoked for over 40 years. She also worked in factories until she retired. Guess what the reason for her ilness was cited as being? Not old age, not working in dusty factories, not living in an industrialised area with high pollution levels, it wasn't the coal fire she had for 50 years, it was smoking.

The "smoking related disease" is a big con thought up by those who benefit.

  • @spire1997 It has enslaved you because you are addictive. I like to drink a can of coke...i'm not addicted to it and could quite easily not have one for months at a time. Tell me you can do that with cigs. No, again you are wrong. Clothing (WTF?), alcohol do not kill as many people as smoking. Smoking is the no.1 health concern the world over. I agree alcohol needs to be targetted as well, in fact I campaign again that too! Tobacco though kills about double annually compared to alcohol. Fact.

  • @thedannyclayton

I'm defending nothing other than how people choose to live their lives. Nobody has enslaved me, tobacco is a product I enjoy.

Who is disputing that nicotine is addictive? Not me, or anybody as far as I can remember.

Ask yourself why you choose to target tobacco rather than other industries that cause far more damage. Clothing, alcohol, foreign agricultural produce, in fact almost any product that is manufactured in the developing world. Your priorities are all wrong.

  • @spire1997 I also don't hate smokers. I can't stand morons like you who defend the indefensible. d8znɐ36/ɯoɔ˙ןɹnʎuıʇ//:dʇʇɥ Check out those nice comments from the industry that enslaved you to an addictive drug when you were a kid and keep you smoking their product. Oooohh look even one of your favourites admits nicotine is addictive! How nice 8ןpu8ן6/ɯoɔ˙ןɹnʎuıʇ//:dʇʇɥ
