long before this, this guy's music made me want to move to Texas on its own merits. yeah, this is redone and it's nashville'd up, and he's got singles on "country" radio, but it still holds its own weight, and you can't knock what he's put together. great song... anyone knocking this guy is a douche. shut up and appreciate it, or quit following it at all.
Sad. Very sad. The was the man about 10-12 years ago, but he has turned from great, to awesome, to oh God here it comes, to flat-out sellout. I hate to admit it, but it's the truth.
That's the problem...that's what we call a sell out...and didn't change his sound?? are you crazy? listen to the opening chords of the song on this version versus the original....TONS different....sounds way more pop....sounds like i'm listening to it through a tunnel....let's not even mention the way he sings the last few versus or the lack of prominent twin fiddles.....twin fiddles playin really are just a memory now for pat
Pat is awesome! As a musician, I understand the need to try different things and see where it takes you. That said, Pats old band and sound is beyond cool and I hope to see it come back. Still a fan.
Ultimatley, you can't blame any artist for wanting to evolve or explore something new. Everyone does it. People threw a fit when Bob Dylan went electric. No artist wants to become stagnant though.
Perhaps one day Pat will return to his roots and when that day comes I'll be in the front row. Until then.. carry on Pat.
He's exploring a new phase in his career. I recall when Pat shifted from his original Texas music - which I'm very fond of to this new Nashville sound. I was mad.
I recently read an interview with him in Texas magazine that gave me some hope though. In it Pat talked about how he was simply exploring a new phase of his career and mentioned how even Willie Nelson, a Texas legend had experimented with Nashville country for a period of his career.
Pat, why did you sell out...?

Pat did somewhat sell out. The orginal version of Carry On is way better. His music is for sure watered down almost pop country...BUT
i saw pat live acouple of weeks ago...he still puts on a damn great show
too bad his albums arent as good anymore :( maybe one day he'll go back to his roots
