Holland Ponds - Heron Mating

Some rare Footage of mating Great Blue Herons at the Rookery in Holland Ponds park. The park is located in Shelby Twp., Macomb county. This is the largest Great Blue Heron Rookery in southeastern Michigan with 35 mating pair counted last season. These magnificent birds will be returning at the end of March to build their nests and raise their youngsters for the summer, before they head south again for winter. You can watch this all happen at the park. From mating to eggs, to hatching and watching the youngsters grow so quickly as both parents make endless trips with fish, frogs and other goodies for their youngsters. These are sights to behold and not commonly viewed.
