  • Someone commented earlier in the thread that there were no females in this video. Actually, there are two: a mother and daughter at the shore ("Glory be to our Mother and Daughter and to the Holy of Holies"). In hindsight it was probably the best place to represent them...

  • I couldn't agree more....

  • P is the Greek letter Rho - signifies Christ. X is the ctoss. Alpha and Omega are the other two letters - the beginning and the end.

  • Found on the front of an altar - the

Guys, I'm going to explain this very simply: The full title of the song McFerrin wrote is "The 23rd Psalm - For My Mother". He dedicated the song to his mother, and thought it fitting to change all the male pronouns and such to female. He is in now way implying that God is female.

  • @stonearmor that is absolutely true - he's not implying that God is female. However, this thread and the discussion it has started does raise a truly interesting question, doesn't it? I mean, regardless of what Scripture says, God is a mystery, and I'm not certain any of us will truly know until we've gotten to that moment at the end of our lives when we learn the answer to that question. Personally, I believe, as I said before, that God has no limits. And we are to be kept wondering...

  • Unbiblical? I'm not so sure about that... I would submit that there are numerous references to God as female throughout both the Old and New Testaments. That tells me that God has no limits. And I knew that before I heard this for the first time. It just made me that much more certain.

  • I don't know about you all, but for me this piece has the powerful ability to make me think of my mother and everything she did for me. She actually DID "set my table before me"...many times. And she most definitely sang to me, and "filled my heart with song." It doesn't have to mother's day to reflect meaningfully on the virtues and good works of your mother. Thank you Bobby for directing well deserved praised to the much overlooked and under appreciated role of moms everywhere.

  • @wtrachim Actually it is C and P for Ch + R: Means CHRist. Though the X read as cross is a nice side-effect.

  • SOund gorgeous, photos beautifully chosen and synchronised. My only complaint is the terminal Rs ("eveRRRRRR and eveRRRR") throughout. They detract significantly. "Evah and evah" puts across the word in a way that doesn't break the beauty.

And why is there no acknowledgment of the choir that performed this?

  • No. Sorry. Psalm 23 is nonsense. Read honestly it's just nonsense. Lots of wishful thinking. Encouraging self delusion. And it's all lies and bullshit. Crappy source material, Bobby.

  • @EbonJackal People clinging to made up stories about gods in the 21st century? This is embarrassing stuff. However... I thank you. I will consider a more lenient stance.

  • @mouthyweasel After giving this song a true listen and getting rid of your angst and contempt for the good people who still exist in the societies of faith, you'd be better off to take the stance of Henry Drummond from Inherit the Wind:

"The Bible is a book. It's a good book, but it is not the only book."

  • @isingsoogood That's Thomas Merton with the Dalai Lama near the end of the song. Merton was a Trappist (Catholic) monk. His writings have influenced and informed my faith for many years.

  • If male and female are made in God's own image, then God is both male and female. It's GOD, folks, we can't fit God in any box created by human thought.

  • The only thing missing is a representative from the Source Religion of the 23rd Psalm. It is gorgeous, though! Thank You!

  • Finally, acknowledgement of the Goddess! Thank you so much, Bobby, for this video.
