This was really terrific! I performed the role of Floyd Collins in the musical in 1999 and the director, assistant director and I travelled to Kentucky to all the locations in your video. Wow, the memories came flooding back.
When we were getting a rubbing of some of the family headstones a man name (and I'll never forget this) "Bobby KO" pulled of the little 2-lane highway in front of the church and told us about how to find Crystal Cave and many of the legend and history as he worked as a to
I was just at the house yesterday. When you go to mammoth cave look for Flint ridge road. It's about a mile walk off Flint ridge but worth the walk. On the map it's called "Crystal Cave." Ask any ranger and they'll tell you where it's at. The house was just remodeled inside and out. It's very nice! You can also see the cave. Can't enter, it has a metal door.
I wasn't aware that Sand Cave was publicly accessible. Turns out that it was on my Mammoth Cave NatGeo map all along. I'll be sure to check this out the next time I visit the park. Could you tell me where the house is located though? I would really like to see that also.
Thank you for posting this. I worked on the Adam Guettel musical production of Floyd Collins, and was very curious about the actual setting of the story. I'm hoping to go to Kentucky and see it myself one of these days.
