Ledgendary surfer/shaper Chris Hawk was inducted into the Surfer Hall of Fame September 18, 2009. He passed away on October 23, 2009 of cancer. In this slide show, 200 surfers and several dolphins paid tribute to him by having a Paddle Out Ceremony at the Huntington Beach Pier On November 1, 2009, with hundreds more watching from above on the pier. His ex-wife and long-time friend, Cathy, can be seen in the white tee-shirt and Lei in the middle of the circle, with his brother, Tommy Hawk to her right with a Lei around his neck. Note the black/red Hawk Tee-Shirts worn by many, which Hurley produced with the proceeds going to the Christian Hawk trust fund for his son.

I knew Chris for around 5 years in the 90's He was A great Guy and a Great Shaper.

I'm surprised there are no responses to this video. My Dad and his Dad were friends as kids in The Downey SouthGate area. I knew all the Hawks far before they started surfing although I was never personally a close friend. I had boards made by all of them at one time or another. I understand Chris died at another old friends house in San Clemente. I would have came to the paddle out but my old friend never told me Chris had died. Too bad.
