The Capoeira was created in Bahia by African slaves as a way to defend themselves from abuse, a skill disguised as a pseudo-dance ritual to fool their masters.

Today there are Capoeira schools all over Brazil and the world, but especially in Bahia, where slaves were first brought to America, as a way of expressing black pride and keeping their history and culture alive.

  • Fighting disguised as dancing\\ brilliant...and beautiful African art.

  • lol Funny we recently had a Kung-Fu master come to our school in Ohio and he said he has a lot of respect for it and thinks the principles it teaches are fine among other Martial Arts. That opinion is from a Kung-Fu MASTER. What are your credentials again? ; )

I started training by myself, kinda like the Senzela group did back in the days, and then i found an amazing group in my city, Grupo Sul Da Bahia. Since then my life has completely changed, i encourage any passionnate individual to start capoeira..sooner then u think u'll live, breath and smile Caaaapoeira!!

  • Salve Mestre Rubens Bamba !!!

  • Bamba is the name of the Mestre in the video (Rubens Silva)

  • Capoeira, once banned by the Brazilian colonial society, is now openly accepted as Brazilian heritage. Culture is fluid in that it will accept and adopt ideas around it even if such ideas are seen as alien and even dangerous. The human experience is one of adoption in that cultures are always built up from layers of past belief and practice that came before them. Capoeira is one of the best evidence of this.

  • Thank you very much.
