A brief review of the Lathemaster 9 X 30 lathe. Although I've not had a chance to put this lathe through its paces, it looks like this is a *very* well built lathe and is far beyond the average Asian home machine shop lathe. I'll have more reviews as I get to use the machine more.

  • i am looking to buy a lathe and mill, how to you find the belt drive, i have been told to go gear drive, i am a retired welder but still like to build an repair stuff, i need to make pins up to 2"-2-1/2 and say 16" long plus weld in pin bosse, will that unit do that?

  • @arnoldcustom

Thanks for watching my videos. I’ve owned both gear and belt driven. If you planning on changing speeds or doing a lot of thread work, get the gear drive. However, the belt drive will be *much* quieter and simpler to use.

    Hope this helps.

  • I have a Lathemaster and really like it, I had a problem with the lead screw and Bob sent me another one for no charge, that's great service !

Thanks for your comments...I have found the Lathemaster to be fine machine and the service outstanding.

Thanks for watching and for your comments. I've had the lathe now for over 3 years and it still is going strong. In fact I was using it last night.

  • Quantum looks almost the same design. I have one and it was just a A+++ decision!

  • @nolatoolguy some are good some not so good, its a bit of a lottery in my experince. But u do get alot for the cash tho! Some are of superb design and can be improved with DIY work to a high end product! Check forums localy who sells good machines is my best advice. Quantum seems to be a very good buy here in EU.

  • how much are these?

  • I agree, Ive owned several Grizzly products including the 12 X 36 lathe (had to sell it when I moved) and they are fine products. Ive found the Lathemaster to be as good, perhaps even better, than the Grizzly equipment Ive owned.
