Speaking at a conference this week - Jack Gerard - the head of the American Petroleum Institute - which is the nation's largest lobbying organization for oil and gas corporations - told President Obama, "I think it would be a huge mistake on the part of the president of the United States to deny the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline...Clearly, the Keystone XL pipeline is in the national interest. A determination to decide anything less than that I believe will have huge political consequences." Do what the oil barons say - build the damn pipeline - or suffer "huge political consequences." The sad part is - in today's post Citizens United world - we have to take these threats seriously

This is why there's so much opposition to the pipeline in Canada. We have to import oil for the east coast from south America. It makes no sense. Arkstrikle that isn't propaganda the tar sands are very toxic.

You go, we don't want to take the ecological chance of polluting our aquafer, meanwhile you'd have to get it over the Rockies.

"I agree" I drive a car, heat my house, every product in my house is made with oil and I realize that every business in the world requires an oil source in some way or another. But I'm not addicted to oil.... I just feel nice and fuzzy when I say I'm against oil LOL. We are a bunch of drug addicts screaming for the heads of our drug dealers. But no one thinks about what will happen when all of a sudden there isn't snuff drugs to go around !

I hope we don't build the pipeline, I hope we instead build the facilities to refine the oil here in Canada, pipeline it to our own ports in British Columbia, and sell it to whoever wants to buy it as a finished product. American's were offered a piece of the pie, you rejected it so be it. Canada should simply start looking out for its own interests and create all of the jobs and wealth that extraction, refinement, and sales of the product will create FOR CANADA. Forget Houston, we have Calgary.
