A look at the life and art of Native American craft artist and potter Maria Martinez, of San Ildefonso Pueblo. Few craft artists, Native American or otherwise, can claim worldwide fame and appreciation like Maria Martinez. Through her hard work and generous sharing of her pottery techniques, Maria reintroduced the art of pottery making to her people, providing them with a means of artistic expression and for retaining traditional aspects of the pueblo way of life. For nearly one hundred years, until her death in 1980, Maria was always eager to greet visitors and share her craft. Maria and her family have been and continue to be ambassadors from San Ildefonso Pueblo sharing the rich culture and heritage with the rest of the world. In this documentary, Maria's grandchildren and great grand children share their memories and appreciation for the work and legacy of this notable New Mexican.
Orginally broadcast on New Mexico PBS station KNME.

I was a resident of New Mexico for several years and am now an art teacher in the northeast. I have been inspired by and share the work of Maria and her family each year with my young students. They are always convinced they can 'copy' the style of the San Ildefonso pottery, but once they have their hands on the clay and slip, they realize just how difficult this artform is. Thank you for providing this video for us to view.
MEXICANS ARE NATIVES AND INDIGENOUS PEOPLE no matter if we speak other lenguage diferent that our ancient ancestors. That was somethig we couldn't choose becouse Christianism and spanish lenguage were impose by the europeans or u got kill 4 not obbey Anyway Here are some of the greates cultures MEXICA, MAYA, TOLTECA, TEOTIHUACAN ...... all this cultures were thousans of years before columbus arrives this continent and we the Mexicans,Guatemalans, Salvadorians...are DIRECT DECENDENTS OF THEM.
the mexican government did not speak apache, there for why would they feel an obligation to call geronimo by his name, instead they would hispanize his name, but what that has to do with you attempting to prove your point? i dont turn down everything everyone tells me, i just want you to prove your points, instead of doing that you just tell me to go look it up myself, if this information is so readily found, then it should not be any trouble for you to find it.
gerinmo thing was an example like i said and u turned that into being my whole topic, but u seem not to undertsand,,,and then u send me new mexico vids, ill never know why, though interesting, it has nothing to do with the original topic
i was simply telling you geronimo was called geronimo, i dont think he called himself by that name, so you example of him is mute, i showed you those vids because you have this notion of the spanish treating the native americans bad simply on the basis some native americans have spanish surnames. the treatment of the natives compared by the spanish and later mexican goverments were far better than the english and american governments
yes geronimo didnt call himself geronimo but the mexican spanish did,im jus sayin thats the spanish mexican mentality to name indians after there own names so one of course geronimo the rebel didnt abide by the name but many other conuered natives of mexico did and all i was stating to begin with was the spanish did give natives there names, the spaish though the natives were evil so the converted them to cathlism, and after every baptism they were baptised with a spanish name, this is fact
