In order to do any damage to the Grim Reaper, you must first collect all the medalions from it and put them back into the chest. Use magic, mostly Thundara, to make it drop them, then gather them all and place them back into the chest. If you run low on magic, attack it normally to drop some MP orbs, or have some Ethers handy. You do not need to place all the medalions back into the chest at once, just as you go. It's not a good idea to hold them anyway, as when Sora gets attacked, he will drop some. Once all the medalions are placed back into the chest, attack it as rapidly as possible before it goes to attack the chest and scatter the medalions again. It will also try to suck them in, but you can stop it if you get next to it and use "Hinder" to stop it, then use in combination with "Loot Launch" to make it drop several of them. This will happen quite a few times, so be on the watch, especally in the last phase where it will have all the medalions. When it starts the last phase, jump over the attacks from the heads to avoid damage. Then repeat the process of attacking with magic to gather the medalions, place them in the chest, and defeat it to gain a bonus level-up.

Bonus Level-Up 36:
Sora - Magent Element (Magnet is upgraded to Magnera, 30 MP)
Donald - Flare Force (Ability, 3 AP)
Goofy - Maximum HP Increased (+5, new total 90)
Jack - Maximum HP Increased (+15, new total 100)

With the Heartless defeated, the curse is removed from Jack. However, defeating it also gives its heart to Luxord, and he thanks Sora and leaves. Jack asks what exactly is going on, and Sora explains that he is part of an Organization that collects hearts. They go to various worlds and release Heartless. Sora and the rest defeat these Heartless, and they get the hearts. Sora says they need to find the stronghold to finish the job, otherwise they will never get ahead. Will and Elizabeth come in and ask if there is anything they can do to help, and Jack says there is something.

They take the ship out to the ocean and drop the chest into it, out of reach from anyone ever again. Jack says they don't need the likes those creatures running about to ruin the business for pirates. Elizabeth realizes that's why he went back, not because he wanted to save everyone. Jack tells her that pirates always look for profit. Sora tells him he had them going, thinking he turned a new leaf. Jack asks what's beyond the leaf; in other words, what his reward is. Jack wants Sora's Keyblade. Sora easily hands it over, and Jack is suspicious. When Jack takes hold of it, it warps back into Sora's hands, and Jack sees the situation. Sora tells Jack he still has the Pearl, and Jack says that's true. But he does plan to gather a crew to get Sora's Keyblade, maybe having a way to wield it by then. If he does get it, he'll ask Will and Elizabeth to join his crew, and Elizabeth is happy to oblige. Goofy thinks that maybe Jack may be able to use the Keyblade, because he thinks that Sora and Jack are somewhat alike, but Sora and Jack say they aren't...at the same time and with the same pose, and everyone laughs about it. The stories of Jack Sparrow say that he was the worst pirate ever to sail, but Will, Elizabeth and the others know he was the best. Sora wonders if they'll ever see him again as he goes on his pirating journey once more.

When Sora and the rest arrive back on the Gummi Ship, Chip notices the strange reading again from earlier. Dale sees it too, but its still fuzzy and hard to read. Chip does say that whenever Sora and the others go to help someone, the reading gets stronger. Chip says they'll look more into the reading as Sora, Donald and Goofy continue on. before going on, you can equip everything lucky you have again. At this point, it should be the Lucky Ring, Goofy's Lucky Lucky, possibly Sora's Lucky Lucky, Sora's Sweet Memoires Keyblade, Goofy's Genji Shield, Donald's Meteor Staff and even Jack's personal Lucky Lucky. All these combined should allow you to quickly fight the Gamblers, the Nobodies that had the medalions, in the ship graveyard and Isle de Muetra (there are a LOT in the treasure room), or even on the ship between places, until one of them drops the Nobody Guard (Attack 8, Magic 0, Hyper Healing), the best non-synthesized weapon for Goofy. Remember, like with Beast's Castle, the areas will have both Heartless and Nobodies, so go out and in until they appear.
