i heard he would slap people in between takes, because he felt like doing it
-
and i quote him

Oh so smart or oh so pleasant. That is a false choice. In the movie "The Help" we are taught that we can be smart, kind and important. I think Jimmy Stewert and Harvey would approve.
-
Scroobius Pip did quote it, and did a good job of it.

What a great quote to live by!

The uploader's comments are a bit off the mark; this is one of the finest fantasy plays ever written. Elwood is an extremely difficult role. The actor took it and made it his own as no other actor could have. The film doesn't give Elwood transcendence. Jimmy Stewart does. You may quote me.

."She always called me Elwood" God, this movie is too cute. I was just watching and felt compelled to look up bits here. It never gets old.

Who else but Jimmy Stewart, the nicest guy in the world, could play Elwood Dowd. He makes the quote his own.
and again, absolutely true! And it's one of the few times I can think of where the film really outshines the original - in this case, the play by Mary Chase. It's a great play, but the film really gives Elwood a much more transcendent kind of aura. I don't think anyone who is really watching can walk away with the idea that this is just the drinking causing this man's uniqueness!

I agree. Elwood would be a much better role model than most.
