Irish Ship to Gaza solidarity demo Dublin 28-06-2011

Speaking about the demonstration, Irish Ship To Gaza spokesperson Claudia Saba said: "We have called this demonstration to stand in solidarity with the 1.5 million besieged people of Gaza and all those who are taking part in Freedom Flotilla Two. We are encouraging people to take to the streets to show their support for this important civil society initiative to break the illegal Israel blockade of Gaza. Last year Israeli commandos violently intercepted a similar flotilla in international waters. This murderous attack left 9 passengers dead and many others injured. It is therefore extremely important that we are on the streets this Tuesday to demand that no repetition of this assault occurs and that the flotilla be allowed safe passage to Gaza. We are also asking the Irish government to demand the same." Speaking from the MV Saoirse's berthing point, ISTG National Coordinator Fintan Lane, who will take part in the Flotilla, said: "Israel's illegal and inhuman siege has now entered its fifth year. This blockade has caused untold suffering and misery for the people of Gaza. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross it constitutes collective punishment, while the UN reported in March of this year that Gaza was suffering a protracted human dignity crisis with grave humanitarian consequences. It is with this in mind that we, the Freedom Flotilla participants from many nations, set sail for Gaza to affirm the right of the Palestinian people to unimpeded access to international waters and air space, in conformity with international law and all United Nations resolutions. We ask people of all nations to demonstrate in support of the Flotilla and to call for an end to the blockade and its disastrous consequences."

@gavmcguinness8024 US does not fund Israel! US gives loan guarantees to Israel that Israel has to spend in USA. Stop the loan guarantees and USA loses 3 Billion dolloars in Business. Israel is self sufficient and we pay back our loans.

Actually, the people of Gaza receive 400 truckloads of goods daily, including food, fuel, medical supplies, building materials and clothing.

Look it up.

The tiny amount of aid the flotilla ships want to bring in is a pittance. The American ship isn't bringing anything, except love letters from the USA.

on that issue , i agree with you but The ships should come to Ashdod port with The UN then the aid need to sent it Gaza .

@ronipold It shouldn't stop aid, building materials or any sort of entente. The people of Gaza desperately need these items. Aid that comes through Israel is strictly limited and as a result people are dying everyday.

Like i said ,the limitation should be only for security issues and it should not be also about "transportation of vital medicine, school books, building supplies " but also Israel sends Aid and it should be known but the blockade is legal but it should stop aid .

About your past : For over 48 years Zionist Jews wanted to build Israel under the ruling of The Turks and under The Brits when The Arabs abused them by revolting against them for example 1929 Hebron massacre o and against The Brits that caused The Brits trying to stop The Zionist Jews from build their state ,so Israel is not so different but Israel's enemies are a lot different then yours ,so its hard to believe that they are peaceful and noble .

@ronipold I agree in some respects... Hamas is apart of the problem however, the same happened here in Ireland during the British occupation. Support for a physical fight for independence grows year after year in these sort of situations. When Israel are restricting the transportation of vital medicine, school books, building supplies, etc into Gaza, then you know exactly why Gazian people feel the way they do.

I am a realist so I think the security blockade is legal as long as its sticks in security topics but it cannot effects the life in Gaza because its should only effects Hamas ,the same militant movement who shoot for 8 years rockets to Sderot and his keeping Gilad Shalit for over 5 years a hostage,why being only one sided ? !
