It all started with the blues and everyone has been copying it ever since.
Great - but its unlikely that Jazz or Ragtime evolved out from the blues - they originated in New Orleans in the 19th century, while the blues has its origins in a more rural setting in the Delta. However, they do have some of the same influences like european ballads and african rythims. All the best.

Jazz did evolve from Blues.Jazz was born when Buddy Bolden first stated played Blues on his cornet and mixing it with Ragtime music.
