This is a really great recording. What orchestra/conductor is this?

The Allies were hell-bent on extracting revenge after WW1 and destroying the Central Powers. Look what a mess the Allies created instead. To this day, we are still living with the fall-out of the Allies' policies, especially in the Middle East. Long Live Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany and Turkey! Long Live the Hapsburgs, Hohenzollerns and the Ottomans!

hitler was just a poor populistic b.a.sterd, and has nothing to do with with Franz Joseph. In addiction, he served under the insigna of the german empire, so could be considered a traitor as well (and he betrayed more than just one time: remember the anschluss, which marked the destruction of the austria as an independent nation).

for Hitler's command !

so were the cotillion bals in the past times. you like those atmospheres? read "war and peace" by tolstoj: that book was the first thing i thought at when i read your comment. i'm surprised to see how many enthusiastic supporters of the "good od times" still can be found... i like Wien and the asburgic empire for its enormous cultural vitality in all the possible fields of the human knowledge.

Just go to Wikipedia in English or French, Start with "Maximilian Emperor Mexico" Franz Joseph´s brother, continue with "Napoleon II". Maximilian is the most mentioned as probable son of Napoleon II who had a very noticeable friendship with Franz´s Mother, Sophie.
If it is not true, there would be a long list of things to explain about Franz being much different from Karl, Sophie´s husband. By the way, Napoleon II was called "Franz" in the Hasburgo Court and so Sophie called him.
I think this 2011 is the best era to be alive, but I like the idea of a living in the country side. The only music you hear is what your mother hums or father fiddles. Then one evening, after months and months of waiting, you take a carriage to a ball. Everyone is adorned in splendid gowns and suits. Inside is the only orchestra you will hear for many more months, so you cherish every single instant of it. Every note, every crescendo is a visceral dream. I strive to listen to music like that.
