I don't see it as degrading that they have to "go on the floor in front of their caregivers". It's a fact of life. You're trying to shower them and get them clean. Putting a diaper on them while you shower them would defeat this purpose. It's better to let it wash down the drain so at least you know the resident is clean when you're done, and not sitting in new feces. I won't deny that alot of atrocious things do go on at nursing homes, but I don't think this is one of them.

No one will argue that infectious disease problems don't pop up in nursing homes or any medical institution, like hospitals. But scare shows like this make me suspect a hidden agenda and effort to sell something to a gullible public. You're harping back to 19th Century nursing homes, not those of today Thayer are among the top five most regulated industries in the country.

I also had the experience of having to have an aide clean the shower floor, as it was noticed that visible traces of body waste was present on the floor where my mom was presently to be showered, The aide did cooperate while expressing that housekeeping cleaned the shower area after all the scheduled residents had been showered. There are many other areas where cross contamination in nursing homes are not dealt with: handling of shoes, food, snacks, etc..
