Peace Corps Volunteers in Zambia work with the NGO Trees, Water & People to help communities protect, conserve, and manage their natural resources. They developed methods of alternative fuel such as charcoal made from corn cobs, pedal-powered cell-phone chargers, maize hullers, and fuel efficient cook stoves. This alternative technology was demonstrated at the 2011 Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

50th anniversary events, including the Folklife Festival, have furthered the agency's mission of promoting world peace and friendship. The Peace Corps 50th Anniversary Fund remains the financial backbone for these events. Consider donating to help us make life-changing global connections! http://www.peacecorps.gov/give50
