One of the few arcade games that ive actually played to the end is Final Fight, even tho it cost me a small fortune (well a fortune to a kid).
This Amstrad CPC version is pretty faithfull to the original. The chars and stages are all there, even the bonus ones. Weapons and pickups are also right and even some animations like the train moving into station in the subway is there. Audio is a bit weak, but who can blame that when so much space it taken by the nice graphics. Game is really a monster in size compared to most other games.
Gameplay is somewhat of a letdown tho, but with a game like FF you really expect something over the top and gameplay is quite average in this one (sadly). Lots of times you find yourslef walking down half a stage without any action at all except getting worried about the clock. And I do wonder who made those silly time limits, as half the time you need to RLH and the other half its like the clock is going backwards.
Bloopers (or random surprice?):
- on the subway-station: if you stay at the beginning of the stage you will have to fight less enemies, than if you run down the end (where the train arrives).
- on some stages (happens a bit random): if you die from "time" you loose the whole credit (and not just 1 life) and the next stage loads (instead of staying on the current spot/stage).

  • this looks unplayable. why did they bother?

  • @1981bigdee Money? :D

  • Btw, Hydra is using 4 sides to the fullest, so 4x60 minutes of tape band.

Other biggies K7 games : Bad cat (385kb), Exterminator (566kb) => that one use a gigantic tape band (more than 60 minutes), Twinworld (2 sides, 364kb), UNSquadron 318kb, Outrun Europa 305kb, Alien Storm 291kb, Crackdown 300kb, Gauntlet III 300kb, Indiana Jones 4 Arcade 330kb, Turrican 230kb, X-out 223kb, etc etc :D

  • Yeah, there is some nice long games out there. Still recall i really wanted a tape version of Pirates. That game used a good 2 sides of a disc, but im pretty sure a lot of it was the same on both sides, so they could definately have made one if they wanted. Oh, and Heroes of the Lance is a pretty long tape too. Takes forever to just get into the actual game, lol.

  • Whaaaat?! Only one single sound during the game? "prrr"... "prrr"... "prrr". What a shame! Come on, Amstrad can do better!

  • Yeah a bit sad about the audio. Apart from the intro there isnt much to listen too, except some odd "scratch" noices. Im guessing they ran out of space and had to cut down on the audio. Note that swinging the pipe does make a ok "swoosh" noise. This is one of the largest amstrad games ive ever seen. The tape version must be using at least a 60 min tape here and the data takes up both sides as well.

  • Plus, Megamind pronounces Metro City "Metroesity"

  • @RulerRyze even worse than LJN!

  • LMAO!!! look at the way the boss at the end moves!

  • lame.

  • Super impressive graphics for 8bit computers, I consider CPC to be the master system of home computers, but the scrolling and sprites were dead slow compared to c64 sprites

  • @CholoCPC huge sprites really cut down the memory space on a CPC. Along with this title Chase HQ, Orion prime, Gryzor, Sorcery and others really showed what the CPC was capable of.

  • kool

  • @JPThunder01 Well this is an 8-bit machine released in 1984 with 64k of memory! :)
