Video to show off the DIY Mesh Head drums I finished this weekend. These are based off the design posted here. ( http://www.edrums.info/rock_band.htm )

The only changes I've made are to make the heads somewhat smaller so they fit on the stock Rock Band kit.

I'm absolutely astonished at how sensitive and reliable these drums are. That said I'm also frustrated since after video review the errors in this song are entirely my own and cannot be blamed on the kit (noooo! my favorite excuse is gone! ;) ).

On the upside however I'm getting higher scores with this kit then I've gotten before and this is one of them.

I've also found that on songs I couldn't come close to even getting started in and failed at 25% or less before such like Kool Thing I can now complete or get very nearly there.

These or the pre-built similar goodwoodmod 'stealth head' drums are definitely worth your time and/or money if your frustrated with the noise and responsiveness of your stock kit.

Personally I think I'm going to build another set closer to the edrums.info design w/ a adjustable stand after seeing how well these worked out. :)

  • Nice job man. I applaud you for building your own. I got bashed for posting on the rockband forums that I thought goodwoods set was overpriced. I built some using Mike's website too. Mine are full size though, and I'm thinking of selling them and doing some like what you've done. I did mine off one of his old tutorials. They're great, but just take up too much room. Did you screw each drum to the original pad, or mount them some other way?

  • I had thought about taking the hardware off the old tops to the original kit pads, but then well, I wasn't sure I'd easily get the rubber plugs aligned correctly.

So I took the lazy way out and drilled 4 holes in them and screwed them to my new heads. So at the base of each of my new ones is the old pads with the sensor cages removed held on w/ 4 screws.

After building these though I'm thinking of building them larger, but I have space for it. :)

  • this is uber quiet

  • @xHSxSTUNN3Rx yep. just they look really ugly

  • How much did this all cost?

  • wow, who the hell needs to buy their own goodwoods anymore

    good job man

  • umm no they arent compare the number of screws on those heads to the goodwoods

  • They are quieter with better rebound. As far as durability goes, I would say they would last about six months of casual use before you ended up with a hole in it.
