Then I watch this great On2 instructor on Youtube out of Cali (great patterns)MAMBOSF. He starts by stepping backwards counting 6,7, and / People say it doesn't matter, but it confuses the @#%$^& ot of me. I was dancing with an On2 chica, we broke apart for a few seconds freestyle and I completely lost her going back to the basics of On2.
I see other On2 instructors on Youtube (APERSAUD) who further confuses me with their counting and footwork. What is the On2 standard?

Every time I see On2 dancers counting, it never appears to be the same. I have 5 years of On1 under my belt & it's standard for the leader to start off left foot forward (1), right foot in place (2), left foot return to starting position (3). I've started a few weeks learning On2 & my instructor of 23 years teaching Mambo does left foot back(1) right foot back(2)rock, then left foot in place(3), forward right foot(5)forward left foot(6)rock, left foot in place (7). Your guy counts the 5,6 as 1,2

@JAMONITDJCOM There's the NY 2 and the Puerto Rican 2:
NY2 when doing partner work: guys step 1)left back 2)right back 3)left in place... and so on, but when you do shine on the NY2 you do it on the follow's timing, which is what they're doing in this video. It's kinda like when you dance on 1, all shine footwork is taught on the lead's timing; it's just the other way around when you dance the NY2. As for the PuertoRican 2, the lead will step forward on 2 for the partner stuff too.
