The organ Toccata of Jon Kristian Fjellestad, composed only few years ago, is a splendid perpetuum mobile movement, in the full style of the French symphonic toccatas, very original and suggestive. Thanks to Jon for freely sharing a so beautiful piece.

The organ of the parish church of San Vincenzo Martire in Nole (near Torino, Italy) was built in 1922 and enlarged to three manuals, 45 stops and two consoles in 2003. As organist of the church, I designed the restoration works for enhancing the symphonic characteristics of the original instrument. The restored organ received several appreciations from many organists but, in November 2006, the high church tower suddenly collapsed, destroying forever the historical organ, together with half of the church. The reconstruction of the church is now underway, but many years will elapse before to rebuild the organ.

As I have explained in the previous video post, this recording is played on a virtual clone, built around the Shirokuma's Notre Dame de Budapest library, mixing the samples to emulate as best as possible the main sound features of the destroyed organ. The aim is to keep alive the memory of the instrument, hoping in a quick reconstruction. Of course, it would have been better to use recordings made on the real organ, but there were none of sufficient audio quality.

  • A grand piece in a most beautiful church, indeed. Music of sustained grandeur to hold one's breath aloft on the wings of angels. *****

  • Thanks for your compliments!

  • Bravo! A wonderful work, on a wonderful (virtual) organ!

Which software are you using for the Realization of the organ? Is it Hauptwerk?

  • Thanks for the compliments! No, its not Hauptwerk. As I wrote in the infos attached to the first post of this series (Viernes Finale from the Symphony no. 1), NDB samples are running under Gigastudio 3. A dedicated computer program connects the MIDI output of a II/P organ console to Gigastudio. The ambience of the original church is emulated by a dedicated IR reverb.

  • can anyone tell me where i can get the scores of this magnificent peace because since I've heard it I'm in love with it!Please answer me!Thanks, your biggest fan ddecho!

  • Very easy! You can download it for free from the author's website. Since it seems not possible to put web addresses into comments, you'll find the address in the video posted on Youtube from the author himself ("Mighty toccata"). Alternatively, you can search Google for "jffj, the free music publisher". Enjoy!

  • Love the change of timbre at 1:19. Such a great piece to listen to again and again.

  • Fantastica interpretazione! A che punto è la ricostruzione? E' rimasto qualcosa di queto Monumento Musicale o è andato completamente perduto in tutte le sue parti? **********

  • Fabulous - the music and the sound.
