DO NOT TRY AT HOME!!! TO BE PERFORMED BY PROFESSIONALS AND LICENSED PEOPLE ONLY!!!

Approximately 2 grams, topped off with a pinch of black powder for ignition.

30 Potassium perchlorate
70 Zinc (-600 mesh flake)

  • are those ratios the right way round? pretty nice though

  • @megafeltch Stoichiometric ratios. Theoretically it should be the best ratio.

  • @dudomaniac considering the reaction :

    4Zn + KClO4 => 4 ZnO + KCl

    the stoichiometric ratio should be 65.5% Zn and 34.5% KClO4, not 70-30.

  • Anything on this channel is home made :-) . That BP was made with a batch of willow, and then pressed and corned. The stuff used on top here is from the -120# fraction.

  • Ah, yes when I take a closer look I see the BP. Good stuff though, is the BP homemade.

  • It was tipped with a bit of black powder, the zinc flash itself did hardly ignite from an open flame.

  • It seems fairly sensitive considering you lit it with just a smoldering match head.

  • It isn't that bright actually. Keep in mind it was about 2 grams, and my camera was 2 feet away. This leads to overexposure of the sensor, which makes it seem brighter than it actually is.

    I did not perform any tests on stability, nor am I planning on doing so.

    It's not worth the effort I think, I doubt if it actually will give a bang when confined.

  • Seems a little slow, but is really bright! Whats the static friction like on it? And is it worth the time and effort compared to say KNO3 bassed flash, or perc
